Information received concerning the threats and alleged attack, possibly amounting to torture, of Mr. Aytekin Aktaş while he attempted to carry out his professional duties as a human rights lawyer assisting members of the “Life Watch” protests. We also wish to communicate the alleged repression of the “Life Watch” movement by the Gendarmerie which in some cases involves threats and physical violence.

Information received concerning the alleged arbitrary detention of at least 2,000 individuals from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), among which approximately 70 percent are women, in China, and their risk of refoulement to the DPRK, which may put them at risk of serious human rights violations, including arbitrary detention, torture, enforced disappearance and extrajudicial killings.

Información recibida en relación con las resoluciones de la Corte Suprema que suspendieron a veintiséis abogados del Colegio de Abogados de Nicaragua tras ser declarados “traidores a la patria”, presuntamente como represalia por su trabajo en pro de derechos humanos y por sus opiniones. La medida es el resultado de una decisión judicial de expulsión de 222 personas, incluidos algunos de estos abogados, y las reformas aprobadas por la Asamblea Legislativa para permitir despojar de la nacionalidad nicaragüense y de sus bienes a las personas declaradas “traidores a la patria”, incluyendo 94 personas.
