Alleged victims: - More details... |

Information received concerning the military strikes conducted by the United States Armed Forces on Iran on 22 June 2025, following strikes on Iran by Israel on 13 June 2025. These strikes, which reportedly targeted Iranian nuclear facilities, raise grave questions about compliance with fundamental obligations under international law, including the prohibition on the use of force, non-intervention, respect for State sovereignty, the international crime of aggression, and international human rights law. We are gravely concerned at the threats of additional escalation, including the further targeting of nuclear facilities, which could lead to devastating consequences for human rights, in particular for the rights to life, security of person, health and a healthy environment. Information received concerning recent deportations of Venezuelan and Salvadoran nationals from the United States to El Salvador, particularly those carried out under the Alien Enemies Act. We are concerned that the deportations and related detentions were not consistent with international human rights law, including the prohibitions on unlawful or arbitrary expulsion, freedom from arbitrary detention, the right to due process in the expulsion of migrants and asylum seekers, the right to family life and the rights of children, the obligation of non-refoulement, the prohibition on enforced disappearance, and the requirement of humane conditions of detention . We are also concerned about the designation of organized criminal groups such as the Tren de Aragua as terrorist organizations, and threats to the independence and authority of U.S. judges, and to the professional work of immigration lawyers, in cases where the deportation measures are being challenged. We are extremely alarmed by the imminent prospect of further deportations, in violation of international law. We urge your Excellency’s Government to review these laws, policies and practice to ensure that any measure taken complies with international human rights law and standards. Information received concerning the arms being transferred by and/or with the support of United States to Israel after 7 October 2023, granting direct military aid to Israel, issuing new arm exports licenses, and failing from reviewing the risks assessment of existing ones against the new circumstances. Those arm transfers would contribute to disproportionate attacks on Gaza by the Government of Israel, which could amount to gross violations of international humanitarian law and human rights. Furthermore, the information suggests that United-States-based defense businesses, notably Boeing, Caterpillar, General Dynamics, RTX, Oshkosh, Northrop Grumman and Lockheed Martin have continued transferring weapons to Israel during this time, with the facilitation of the Government, without conducting heightened human rights due diligence, hence fueling violence and human rights violations. Alleged adverse human rights impact related to numerous provisions within the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). According to the information received, the TPP was drafted opaquely, without broad consultations, preventing certain stakeholders, including indigenous peoples, from meaningfully participating in the negotiation process. Certain provisions of the TPP related to intellectual property rights may have a detrimental effect on the realization of the right to the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health, to live in a clean environment, to enjoy the benefits of scientific progress and to participate in cultural life. Serious concern is expressed at provisions relating to the dispute settlement mechanisms before which individuals do not have legal standing and thus are deprived of the right to an effective remedy, and at the investor-State dispute resolution mechanism, which allows investors to challenge laws and policies that promote and protect human rights. The negative impact on access to medicines by the TPP was the subject of a previous communication sent on 19 July 2011, see A/HRC/19/44, case nos. AUS 4/2011, BRN 1/2011, CHL 3/2011, MYS 8/2011, NZL 1/2011, PER 3/2011, SGP 2/2011, USA 13/2011 and VNM 5/2011.Alleged victims: - More details... |
