Information received concerning the alleged persecution of members of the Huweitat tribe who have been resisting their evictions under the NEOM project, part of the Saudi 2030 Vision. Specifically, three persons (Shadly al-Huwaiti, Ibrahim al-Huwaiti and Atallah al-Huwaiti) have been given the death penalty, and three others (Abdelnasser al-Huwaiti, Mahmoud al-Huwaiti and Abdullah al-Huwaiti) have been handed severe prison sentences, to punish as terrorist acts their mere voicing of opposition to the forced evictions, including on social media. Some of them have allegedly been subjected to torture and ill-treatment, including prolonged solitary confinement, while in custody. The NEOM project is being implemented allegedly without genuine consultation, free prior and informed consent, and access to effective remedies of the Indigenous Howeitat tribe, whose members have been threatened with evictions from Al Khuraiba, Sharma and Gayal villages.
Alleged victims: 6
