Information received concerning the lack of access to counsel in Cambodia, due to pressures on the legal profession and lack of access to free legal aid. Legal aid in Cambodia is reportedly affected by a lack of investment and funding by the authorities, and the lack of an adequate framework for legal aid. This gap has been covered by non-governmental organizations, who are now threatened by international funding cuts. These issues critically impact fair trial rights for all individuals in Cambodia, in particular those in rural areas and other groups in vulnerable situations, as well as the ability of legal professionals, including human rights lawyers, to operate freely and effectively in line with international human rights standards in defence of their clients’ rights.Alleged victims: 17042000 More details... |
